Agenda for Change is a new pay and reform package that will ensure that people who work in the NHS are paid on the basis of equal pay for work of equal value. It applies to all directly employed NHS staff, except the most senior managers and those covered by the Doctors' and Dentists' Pay Review Body.
In addition to harmonised conditions (hours, overtime, leave etc) there are new recruitment & retention premia, and high cost area payments (Inner London, Outer London & Fringe).
The system is underpinned by the new NHS job evaluation scheme and new 'Knowledge and Skills Framework'.
The Job Evaluation Scheme - close to 400 agreed national profiles have been published and it is estimated that around 80% of all posts can be matched directly against one of these.
Posts have been divided into 6 Job Families:
Nursing & Midwifery
Allied Health Professions
Health Science Services
Administrative Services
Emergency Services
Support Services
(We have created two additional groups, Medical & Dental and Directors, neither of which are part of Agenda for Change, in-order that job seekers can find details of vacancies in these areas)
Job Families are further divided into Sub-Families i.e.
Nursing & Midwifery > Community Services
Allied Health Professions > Physiotherapy
Within each sub-family there are a range of national agreed profiles. You can see a list of these, along with the Job Statement for each of them. Remember that these are national profiles and do not indicate that the profile is used within the Trust (no single Trust will ever employ staff under all of these profiles as they cover all the main job roles available within the NHS).
Posts that can not be matched with one of the national profiles are evaluated within the Trust.
